Faith and Feelings
Monday Jan 21, 2019
Monday Jan 21, 2019
When we are asked to believe, is it meant that we are to take a "leap of faith" and blindly trust in a reality that is not logical or scientific? The answer to this is simply a no. In fact to do such is very foolish and not real faith.
Sure there is a "walking by faith and not" sight that is part of any faith. You do not have to be in Paris to know that there really is an Eiffel Tower. Nor do you have to see the Grand Cayon to know it is a real place. There are things that we can know without some false proof that is more of a denial of truth than a legitimate acceptance of reality.
The truths that we are called to believe in by faith are basic realities that we can know by how we perceive them. This is where our feeble senses faith and we walk by faith.

Manifesting Grace
Sunday Jan 20, 2019
Sunday Jan 20, 2019
With today's readings from the mass, we are given a picture of how faith is more of a relationship than a religious thing. We are called into a relationship that is a marriage. At the wedding of Cana, Jesus turned water into wine. We see how Mary represents us in bringing a prayer petition and see how cooperating with the grace in obedience water became wine. All of this showing us how we are to believe and live for Him and experience a manifestation of the reality of a spiritual reality by our relating to God as we ought.

Faith to Persevere
Saturday Jan 19, 2019
Saturday Jan 19, 2019
What is the message about grace that we are being taught in the scriptures that talk about believers speaking in other tongues? Is it that we all need to be speaking in other tongues or that it is an example of how we cooperate with God's grace? The answer is simply that it is a practical example of how we act in faith. A how we are to cooperate with grace and receive the blessings and realities promised to us by God in faith.

Faith in Action
Friday Jan 18, 2019
Friday Jan 18, 2019
Faith in action is real faith. You cannot claim to have faith if you will not act. This is true of salvation and receiving answers to prayer. God does not reward passivity. He demands that we cooperate with grace in order for us to benefit from it.

Faith Sees the Answer
Thursday Jan 17, 2019
Thursday Jan 17, 2019
Do you see the reality of the Word of God or do you see only the natural circumstances? To see with faith is a matter of perceiving the world through the things God tells us in His word, both in the scriptures and in the Church's magisterium what we ought to see.

Faith and Hope
Wednesday Jan 16, 2019
Wednesday Jan 16, 2019
Too often we pray with hope and not in faith. This is the reason many of us do not have answered prayers. Other times we pray in faith when we ought to be hopeful instead. And, this too causes people to think there can be no definite answer to prayer. That God says, "Yes," or "No," or "Wait" to our prayers.
But, if we will learn just how to pray and believe, we can move mountains and be effective in prayer.

How We Get Faith?
Tuesday Jan 15, 2019
Tuesday Jan 15, 2019
Faith comes by hearing (Romans 10:17). We have to hear the gospel to believe in it. We do not just reason it out all by ourselves. It is not an intellectual exercise. It is a trust. A trust that is rational and can be supported by evidence, but a trust nonetheless.

What is Faith?
Monday Jan 14, 2019
Monday Jan 14, 2019
What does it mean to believe or have faith? Is it possible to know what faith is?
We act in faith all the time. We go to work trusting that we will get paid after doing our jobs as an act of faith. We trust others and what they tell us about the world, like doctors when they tell us to take certain medications or adjust our diets so that we can remain healthy. As a result, we put faith in what we do not see or know that others inform us is a reality. We believe and not just assent that it could be true. We know it to be true because of what someone else tells us. This is faith.

United in Baptism
Saturday Jan 12, 2019
Saturday Jan 12, 2019
As we near the end of the Christmas season we are shown the connection between our baptism and the Nativity event. It is seen in the way we are to decrease and become more Christ-like or Christian in the true sense of the word. In doing so we gain victory over sin and live more and more holy. All of this comes to us through grace and is the blessing of being a child of God in Christ Jesus our vine.
